High-Intensity Interval Training: The Secret to Staying Young?

Wrinkles, fatigue, and muscle aches are only a few of the items on a long list of things people try to avoid as they grow older. But trying to avoid father time and gravity alike takes a bit more than commercial creams and magic pills, which is why it’s good news to hear that a recent study shows an anti-aging effect with specific types of workouts. Exercise may be tedious for some, but it’s worth the time and effort when it comes to health, especially if some of the benefits include feeling and looking young. Research shows that high-intensity interval training improves mitochondrial capacity. The mitochondria are known as the powerhouse of the cell, producing energy. This part of the cell often slows down and deteriorates with age. To fight this deterioration, doing bursts of intense cardio, followed by equal periods of rest, can lead to an increase in activity of the mitochondria, essentially slowing down the aging process. Read more…
